Similar to a scotch Egg, ground meat is wrapped around an egg, cooked in hot oil and then simmered in a rich gravy. As the name suggests, this is a rich preparation!

Ingredients
  

Meat mixture (farce)

  • 500 gms lean ground Meat Beef, Lamb or Mutton
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • 1 tsp Ginger & Garlic paste
  • 1/2 tbsp chopped green Chilli
  • 1/4 cup finely minced Onion
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp Chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1/2 beaten egg
  • 2 tbsps chopped Coriander

Eggs

  • 4 boiled eggs

Gravy

  • 1 cup Yogurt
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tbsps Ginger & Garlic paste
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric
  • 2 tsps Coriander
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp red Chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1/2 cup fried Onions chopped fine
  • 1/2 cup fresh Oil
  • 1 cup finely diced Onion
  • 1 tbsp sliced green Chilli
  • 2 cups blanched and pureed Tomatoes

To finish

  • 1 tsp red Chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp Cashew or Almond paste
  • Salt to taste
  • Pinch of Pepper

Garnish

  • Mint leaves
  • Coriander leaves
  • Fried Onions

Instructions
 

  • Mix all the ingredients together with the meat to prepare the meat mixture
  • Divide into 4 and flatten each portion and place an egg in the centre and cover with the meat mixture and seal tightly
  • Heat oil and cook the Koftas in batches making sure they are brown on all sides, remove and keep aside
  • To prepare the gravy, first mix the yogurt with the salt, ginger and garlic paste, the spices and the fried onions
  • Heat the oil and add the onion and chilli
  • Add all the prepared yogurt mixture and cook for 5 – 7 mins
  • Add the tomato puree, cover and cook for another 10 – 15 mins
  • Add the extra chilli powder, cashew or almond paste, salt and pepper
  • Add the Koftas into the gravy and cook for 3 mins on one side, flip over and cook on the other side
  • Garnish with mint, coriander and fried onions
