China grass or Agar Agar & Sago pearls come together to make this cool and stunning dessert.

China grass or Agar Agar as it’s known is a vegan and vegetarian since it’s made from seaweed and it used as a gelatin to set liquids. Also try my recipe for Bombay Falooda China Grass!

Sago China Grass

  • 50 gms China Grass or Agar Agar
  • 1 cup Tapioca Peals or Sago
  • 400 ml of Coconut Milk
  • 600 ml Milk
  • 7 tbsps Sugar
  • 1 cup Coconut Water
  • Silver candy balls or drags (optional


  • Soak the china grass in some water for 10 mins
  • Boil in some water till dissolved
  • Boil the Sago pearls for about 5 mins, drain and flush with cold water
  • Heat the coconut milk and regular milk
  • Add the sugar
  • Add the dissolved china grass, reserving about 1/4 cup
  • Add 1/2 or the Sago pearls and pour into serving dish
  • Cool down and set in the fridge for at least an hour
  • Reheat the reserved china grass and add the coconut water and allow to dissolve
  • Add the rest of the sago
  • Cool and gently pour over the set custard and allow to set overnight
