This rich recipe is super simple. A special blend of Yogurt, Ginger & Garlic paste, spices & salt to taste is mixed and kept aside. Onions, Onion seeds (Kalonji), Curry leaves & Chillies are sauteed and Chicken is added to the pot. Spices are added and mixed to coat the Chicken and finally the prepared Yogurt and Water is added to the Chicken and slow cooked.

Ingredients
  

Yogurt mixture

  • 2.5 cups Yogurt
  • Salt
  • 1 cup fried onions
  • 6 tbsps Ginger and Garlic paste
  • 2 tsps Chilli
  • 2 tsps Cumin
  • 2 tsps Coriander powder
  • 2 tsps Garam Masala
  • 1 tsp Turmeric

Chicken Curry

  • 1/2 cup Oil
  • 2 cups sliced Onions
  • 1 tsp Kalonji Onion seeds
  • 1/2 cup Curry leaves
  • 1/4 cup green Chillies
  • 2 lbs 907 gms bone in Chicken
  • 1 tsp red Chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup sliced Tomatoes
  • Yogurt mixture
  • 1 cup Water

Instructions
 

  • Mix all the Yogurt mixture together and keep aside
  • In a kadai or pot add the oil and when it’s hot, add in the onion and onion seeds
  • Add the curry leaves and green chillies
  • Add in the chicken pieces followed by the chilli & turmeric powder and salt to taste and saute to coat
  • Add the tomatoes, followed by all the prepared yogurt mixture
  • Add the water, cover and cook for 15 – 20 mins stirring in between
  • Add salt to taste
